Ho Tri (Library)

Functions

Ho Phra Tripidok or Ho Tri is a building for storing Buddhism Pali Canon (Phra Tripidok) and other important Buddhist scriptures. Therefore, the building functions as the temple’s library, storing scriptures as well as being a place of learning.

Ho Tri of Wat Thepthidaram had been left unattended and in the state of disrepair for several years, due to the fact that it had not been used for decades. The building was neglected until the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage (ASA) found out about Ho Tri and decided to spearhead the restoration project. Providing volunteer specialists in Thai architecture for the project as well as participate in public funding, Ho Tri of Wat Thepthidaram has been renovated with the goal of maintaining its original form as much as possible.

During investigation on the site for the project, the team stumbled upon another archeological discovery. A pond for cement preparation had been found under the building. This pond was used during the temple construction and filled after the construction.

On May 27th, 2012, the Ho Tri of Wat Thepthidaram was awarded UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award of Merit (2011) for the preservation of Ho Tri thought the restoration project.

Currently, the Ho Tri is closed to the public.
